The Toucan Patch
Garden Wall Mural – Tropical Toucans
Artist: Baiju
Medium: Exterior wall paint and weatherproof acrylic
Surface: Rough outdoor cement wall
Location: Residential garden courtyard
Description:
What began as a plain garden wall in a quiet residential space turned into a lively tropical corner with this hand-painted mural. At the heart of the artwork, two toucans perch playfully amidst a dense composition of jungle foliage — monstera, bird of paradise, and heliconia. The colours are vibrant, the lines bold, and the overall energy light and joyful.
Process and Theme:
The process began with a rough freehand sketch directly on the wall. Working in open light, often accompanied by Reyansh, my little helper on a step stool, the painting came to life in layers. Using weather-resistant acrylics and wall-safe pigments, the mural was slowly built up to match the surrounding greenery. The texture of the wall added a subtle depth that worked beautifully with the painted leaves and flowers.
The idea was simple: let art spill out into the open, where people walk past it every day. This piece brings a moment of tropical vibrance to an otherwise quiet space — a reminder that walls, too, can become part of the garden.
